Robert P. George

Robert P. George is the Herbert W. Vaughan Senior Fellow of the Witherspoon Institute, where he acts as the Director of the Program in Political Thought and Constitutional Government. He is the McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and founding director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University. He is a member of the President’s Council on Bioethics and formerly served as a presidential appointee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights. He was a Judicial Fellow at the Supreme Court of the United States, where he received the Justice Tom C. Clark Award. His books include Making Men Moral: Civil Liberties and Public Morality, The Clash of Orthodoxies: Law, Religion and Morality in Crisis, and Embryo: A Defense of Human Life (with Christopher Tollefsen). Dr. George is a winner of the Bradley Prize for Civic and Intellectual Achievement, the Philip Merrill Award of the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, and the Stanley Kelley, Jr. Teaching Award in Politics at Princeton. A graduate of Swarthmore College and Harvard Law School, he holds a doctorate in legal philosophy from Oxford University.
