David C. Sperling
David C. Sperling is a Research Professor at the Institute of Public Policy and Governance of Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya. The Center was established in 2007, in collaboration with the Hills Program on Governance of the Center of Strategic and International Studies, to promote the study of corporate and institutional governance in Africa. He is also the Founding Director of the Utawala Applied Research Institute that oversees the Center of Best Practices of the Council of Governors, the umbrella body of the forty-seven counties of the Republic of Kenya. Previous to his current appointments, Dr. Sperling lectured in the Department of History at the University of Nairobi. He has held Visiting Fellowships at the Institution for Social and Policy Studies at Yale University and at the Harry Truman Institute, Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Dr. Sperling’s ongoing research concerns Fundamentalism and African expressions of Islam and Christianity in East Africa, and issues related to the impact of globalization on poverty in Africa. Dr. Sperling received his BA from Yale University, his MA from Harvard, and his PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
